I've read a great deal of books on photography, marketing, art, etc - but you never know if it is going to be a good book or a boring one!

I set up this page as an area where I can tell you about the various books that I have found entertaining or useful.  If they sound interesting, you can help me out by clicking on the link to the right and purchasing them from Amazon.

Launch your business beyond the competition with this book by Michael Stelzner.  If you are looking for a nuts and bolts plan for growing your business, this book is a great choice.  It is filled with great ideas- presented in a way that makes them easy to understand and implement.

Artistic Growth
Date :25 Aug 2010

The Artist's Way is one of the all-time classic resources for growing as an artist.  I read this years ago and it really changed the way I thought about personal growth.

Julia Cameron's theory revolves around the concept of training your brain to be creative.  If you haven't read this book, I would highly recommend it.  Be warned:  the book may take your hunger for education to a whole new level.

ZEN of Social Media Marketing
Date :24 Oct 2010

I bought this book on the way to the airport, just to pass the time during the flight.  By the time I landed I had earmarked several pages!
What I liked about this book was how it covered the basics for people who were new to social media - but it also had a few hints and tips that would benefit even those who have been using these services for a while.
Shama has a very conversational style, which makes for a fast, easy read.  Definitely worth having on your shelf.

Blue
Date :16 Aug 2015

This is one of those "out there" books that you will either love or hate.  Basically, it is a book about the color blue.  It sounds ridiculous, but it was actually quite interesting.

The book talks about the history of the color and the symbolic meaning in art over the years.  If you are into art theory, you might find this a good addition to your library.

Inbound Marketing
Date :30 Sep 2010

Hands-down the best book I have read on marketing in the modern era.  I don't know what else I can say - buy it!

Survival Guide To Social Media
Date :30 Sep 2010

This is a pretty thorough book on the social media.  It will tell you all the basics, plus a ton of stuff that you might not be interested in at the current time - but might in the future.  Not a bad one to have on the bookshelf.

Ultimate Guide To Google Adwords
Date :30 Sep 2010

A while back I decided to dabble in Google Adwords - just to see if it would generate any traffic to my website.  I soon realized that I had no idea what I was doing.  I picked up a couple of books on the subject and figured out just how lost I was!
This is one of the better books out there on AdWords.  It is a very complicated topic and there is a lot to learn - but this book will get you started on the write path - from writing ads to using their "Peel and Stick" method to increase your success rate.  Well worth the investment if you plan to pursue AdWords.

One Red Paperclip
Date :22 Nov 2010

I just finished reading this book and it was one of the most amazing things I've ever read.  Basically, it chronicles the story of a guy who starts with a red paperclip and -through a series of trades - ends up with a house in Canada.  Its a very inspiring story- you gotta read it!

Customers For Life
Date :30 Sep 2010

If there is a more famous book on customer service, I don't know what it is.  Whether you own a mom-and-pop store or a major corporation, this should be required reading.
While the forms of marketing media may change over time - the value of customer service will always be there.  Buy this book today and make sure you are not missing out!

ProBlogger
Date :25 Aug 2010

I saw this book on the shelves at the bookstore a while back and decided to pick it up.  I had been blogging for a couple of years already and thought it would be interesting to see what kinds of things people are doing to make money off of it.

Now I will have to say - I'm still not 100% sold on this concept of people getting rich from blogging, but I suppose if you found the right market and really worked at it, anything is possible.

The book did provide some pretty cool ideas on how to setup your blog and tips on making it more interesting to readers - and thus, more successful.   I found the "Secrets of Successful Blogs" section to be especially interesting.

It is definitely one of those books that will give you a whole bunch of ideas... the trick is to pick out which ones work best for your business and go after them.

Impressionism
Date :25 Aug 2010

I have always been fascinated with the Impressionists.   For me, the concept is something that really translates artistically to photography.

I had the opportunity to study with Richard Brettell a few years ago in Dallas.  This man is one of the most highly-regarded experts on the Impressionists in the world.  Without a doubt, he has forgotten more about them than I will ever know.

While it isn't a photography book per se, it is a great look into the Impressionists and their style.   In my opinion, the more art knowledge you can cram into your brain, the better off your photography will be.

Guerrilla Social Media Marketing
Date :30 Sep 2010

If you like the "Guerrilla Marketing" series and want to incorporate their tactics into your social media campaign, this is a good one for you.  While it didn't go into as much nuts and bolts detail as I would like, it certainly provides you with a lot of ideas to kick around.

Twitter Power
Date :19 Aug 2010

By now, you have undoubtedly heard of Twitter - so what is it all about?  I figured I had dodged the topic long enough and decided to invest a few hours reading up on it.

The book provides a pretty good insight into how Twitter works and why you would want to do it for your business.  Let's face it, the whole social media thing is here to stay - at least for a while.  You might as well get on board and try it out.  I read a few different books on the subject and this is the one I would recommend to someone starting out.
